Simultaneous interpreting (SI) plays a pivotal role in ensuring seamless communication and engagement at international conferences. As technology evolves, conference interpreters must adapt to new platforms, tools, and expectations. In this session, we will cover the following topics: - An overview of simultaneous interpreting (SI) in the contemporary era; - The technological evolution and its impact upon SI; - The practice of SI in Australia: settings, stakeholders and pathways; - How to maintain/upgrade one’s SI competence for conferences; - The use of AI in SI skills development via deliberate practice; - Q&A Stay tuned for our second episode where we will explore SI in community settings (later 2025). Our Presenter - Shiyi Ye Shiyi Ye holds a Master of Conference Interpreting from Macquarie University in Sydney, where he teaches interpreting and translation part-time. He completed his training in interpreter education at the University of Geneva in Switzerland. In addition to training future colleagues, he continues to work as a freelance interpreter and translator, serving various events and clients in Australia and overseas. A full member of AUSIT since 2010, Shiyi is also an active member of both the International Association of Conference Interpreters and the Translators Association of China. Webinar Duration: 2 hrs
