Members are advised that the AUSIT WA Branch Annual General Meeting for 2020 will be held on Saturday 19 September 2020 from 11.00am to 2.00pm at the University of WA, ARTS: [G61] Arts Lecture Room 5.
Schedule
The WA Branch AGM will be preceded by a guest speaker, networking session with refreshments and the presentation of the Student Excellence Awards, as follows:

Guest Speaker:
Deanne Lightfoot on Aboriginal Language Interpreting in WA
We are very pleased to welcome Deanne to speak on the occasion of our AGM and Student Excellence Awards. She will speak about her experience running Aboriginal Interpreting WA (AIWA), WA’s only Indigenous language interpreting service. Please join us to learn more about our State's Aboriginal languages (there are over 50!), what AIWA does and their unique work of providing interpreting services in northern WA.
Biography
Deanne is a leader in the field of interpreting, with 15 years’ experience supporting Aboriginal interpreting in the Kimberley and across WA. Working collaboratively with AIWA directors and the industry across delivery, education, advocacy and policy, she has helped bring the need for Aboriginal language interpreters to the forefront of public policy. Deanne maintains the position that it is a basic human right for people to understand and be understood in their preferred language, whether that is a version of English or a traditional mother tongue.
All members are cordially invited to attend the meeting! Places limited to 50, so register early to assure your place. Don't miss the opportunity to learn about the work of your Branch Committee over the past 12 months. Please note, only current financial members can vote. Non-financial members are more than welcome as observers.

Election of Branch Committee
Nominations are invited for the 2020-2021 WA Branch Committee.
All committee positions are vacant, so if you know anyone who is willing to contribute to shaping the future of our profession this is the place to start! Nominations will be received electronically.
To nominate for membership of the Branch Committee or an Office Bearer (Chair, Treasurer, Secretary, Branch Delegate to National Council, PD Coordinator, Membership Liaison Officer), you will need to fill out and submit a nomination form by Wednesday 16 September 2020.

If you are unable to attend on the day, please ensure that you email the completed Appointment of Proxy Form to wa@ausit.org. A member or proxy is not entitled to vote at any general meeting unless all money due and payable by the member or proxy has been paid - please make sure that you have renewed your membership before the meeting.

AUSIT members are able to claim 10 PD points in section 1.6 for participating in the AGM. This meeting WILL NOT be recorded
