Unfortunately, we have recently been advised that our presenter, Lawson Stapleton, is experiencing difficulties arranging travel to Australia and is therefore unable to present as planned. We do hope that we may be able to offer the session as an online webinar in the future.

Translators belong to one of the world’s oldest and most vital professions. For centuries, effective multilingual communication has been the backbone of global progress, enduring countless shifts in technology and society. Today, it is clearer than ever that translators are indispensable; they bridge linguistic and cultural divides, fostering social harmony, driving business expansion, and enabling the seamless transfer of knowledge. They also provide the critical foundation for essential societal functions, such as legal and medical proceedings.

However, since the emergence of ChatGPT in late 2022, the localisation industry has been met with a wave of uncertainty. Perspectives are divided: some have fully embraced the change, others remain deeply opposed, and many are still searching for the right path forward.

The reality is that technological advancement will not slow down. Rather than fearing the shift, the more productive question is: "How well do I understand AI, and how can I make it work for me?"

We invite you to join us for an exploratory presentation and conversation regarding the intersection of AI and our industry. Together, we will examine current trends—what is working, what has failed, and how you can strategically position yourself for the future.

Our Presenter - Lawson Stapleton

Since the age of 22, Lawson has been professionally dedicated to solving complex multilingual communication challenges across Australia, Canada, and the EU. Over the past 14 years, he has bridged communication gaps by combining his diverse experience as an interpreter, translator, consultant, and advisor. Lawson has worked with over 300+ languages and has learnt both Finnish and Mandarin Chinese.

With a deep interest in languages, culture and technology. The newest AI wave has brought him a lot of theoretical and practical interest from innovative translation management systems, small language models and AI interpreting.

A recognised subject matter expert, Lawson has contributed his insights to leading industry publications, including Multilingual Magazine, and has been featured by Nimdzi and LocDiscussions (with Stefan Huyghe).
