By popular demand, AUSIT is pleased to offer the second webinar on Respeaking: a relatively new area of professional practice which has attracted a lot of interest from academia, industry and language professionals in recent years. It is one of the techniques used to create live subtitles for television, conferences, lectures, meetings, webinars and other live on-site or on-line events, using speech recognition software. Intralingual respeaking refers to the production of subtitles in the same language, while interlingual respeaking involves the translation of the original speech into another language to produce live subtitles for audiences with a different language background. In this interactive webinar, Nancy will introduce this highly specialised technique, provide you with a summary of the previous webinar, bring you up to speed with the latest academic research in the area, and share new insights into Speech-to-Text Interpreting professional practice, based on her recent experience working remotely on international projects. This webinar is suitable for both translators and interpreters interested in discovering the world of Speech-to-Text Interpreting. Nancy will be sharing new information and insights into this exciting new profession that you will find valuable, whether you attended the previous webinar or not. Everyone is welcome!
Presenter - Nancy Guevara
Nancy Guevara is one the world’s first qualified interlingual respeakers. She started working on developing this complex skill in 2017, when she completed an intralingual respeaking (English) in-house training program at Macquarie University and subsequently worked subtitling pre-recorded academic lectures using respeaking techniques. In 2019, she completed an Interlingual Respeaking Specialisation Program (English - Spanish) with the University of Vigo and worked as part of a live subtilling team for a large game development conference broadcasted on-line from the Netherlands. She currently works for several agencies based in Australia and overseas, including Ai-Media, providing remote live subtitles for on-line events, and offers her services on a freelance basis to clients world-wide. She was recently accepted to work as a freelance captioner for Red-Bee Media and is excited to start captioning live television programs in Australia. Her latest assignments included live subtitling of webinars for the OECD (UK), BHP and Thiess (Australia), Budweiser Group (UK) and Enel Group (Italy).
