face-to-face for participants in the TAS (the hosting branch) and as a live-streamed session for participants in Tasmania who cannot attend in person.
AUSIT's Tasmanian Branch presents Linguists and the Law: A practical seminar for Tasmanian T/I practitioners with the kind sponsorship of Amigos: Translators & Interpreters.
In this interactive 2-hour, face-to-face seminar, open to AUSIT members and non-members, the speaker will use practical examples taken from Australian court decisions to illustrate the operation of the Law in the work of T/I and, in particular, dilemmas encountered by practitioners in the course of assignments.

Presenter - J. Angelo Berbotto
J. Angelo Berbotto LLB(Hons, UTS), LLM (Sapienza, Rome), LLM (Lon), LLM (Complutense, Madrid) is a solicitor based in Sydney and a NAATI certified translator (English > Spanish and French, Italian, Portuguese and Spanish > English).
He has worked mainly in Child Protection Law and in Public Law, serving as Attorney-General of the British Overseas Territory of St Helena, Ascension and Tristan da Cunha from 2016 to 2018. Upon returning to Australia, Angelo worked as Assistant Parliamentary Counsel, drafting legislation, before deciding to pursue his legal career part-time and build up his translation practice in 2022.
Angelo was elected the President of the AUSIT at the AGM in November 2022.
This webinar will be conducted in English.

Members and non-members from all Tasmania are welcome to join in with the webinar to be live-streamed via Zoom online from TAS.
This is a LIVE EVENT and will be recorded. A copy of the recording WILL BE made available for all Registrants.
