Interpreting in Queensland Courts:
A Hands-On Workshop

Wednesday 22 May 2024

10:00 am - 1:00 pm AEST

REGISTRATIONS CLOSED

In this professional development session you will gain a deeper understanding of what it's like to interpret in Queensland Courts.

You will learn important court terms and procedures, and participate in mock court simulations where you will get to play different roles like Magistrate, Prosecutor, Defence Counsel, and Defendant. Plus, you'll have the opportunity to practice interpreting in a courtroom setting.

By the end of this interactive session, you will understand exactly how the court system works and feel more prepared to interpret in Queensland courts.

Please note: this event is capped at 20 participants.

A designated meeting point at the Courts will be communicated to all registrants prior to the day.

Presenter - Paul Ramage, Executive Manager Qld Courts

Paul is currently working with the Courts Technology Services team to develop a comprehensive Knowledge Base system that will house policies, procedures, and operational guidelines for the various systems used within Queensland Courts. With over 30 years of experience at Qld Courts, Paul has a wealth of knowledge and expertise in the field.

Prior to his current role, Paul served as Acting Regional Director for more than seven years, overseeing operational courts spanning Brisbane to Goondiwindi. During his tenure, Paul played a key role in implementing cost-effective and professional interpreter services by introducing the Interpreter Policy, Procedures, and Guidelines. This initiative not only ensures that clients of the courts receive efficient interpreting services, but also guarantees that interpreters are supported and valued within the organization.
