 AUSIT VIC Presents

IT Skills for Translators

Webinar Via Zoom

Thursday 12 June 2025

6.00 pm - 8.00 pm AEST

Registrations close 11:59pm 10 June 2025

In this practical workshop, participants will learn about basic IT skills through an end-to-end process of preparing the translation of an official document (without actually translating), including:

  • Downloading and saving a PDF document
  • Converting a PDF document to a Word document
  • Checking and changing formatting in Word
  • Inserting headers and footers
  • Inserting your NAATI digital stamp
  • Inserting the source text into a Word document
  • Converting a Word document to a PDF document

This workshop is designed for students and practitioners who:

  • Have less confidence in the above-mentioned tasks
  • Want to understand available functions in editing software such as Word
  • Want to learn a CAT tool but are not confident of their IT skills

As this is designed to be a hands-on workshop where you can practise the above skills, it will be beneficial to have a device (e.g. a laptop) separate from the one you use to access the webinar unless you have multiple monitors set up.

To help us tailor this PD session for Translators, please take a moment to submit your questions for our presenter here so we can ensure that we cover the topic during the workshop.

Our Presenter - Ken Negato

Ken Nagato is a NAATI certified translator (English into Japanese), certified provisional interpreter and runs his own business (Niche Bridge Languages). He has a Master of Translating and Interpreting with Distinction from RMIT as well as over two decades experience in Structural Engineering. With his engineering background, technologies are his tools of trade and he has fast adapted his skills to T&I technology.

Ken is passionate to share his knowledge and experience with colleagues and friends. He teaches the Translation and Technology course at RMIT and is also a current AUSIT member and a committee member of its Victorian Branch.
