This webinar is designed for interpreters who wish to strengthen their skills and build greater confidence in medical interpreting. The session will take participants through a structured approach to interpreting assignments across three key stages: pre-task, in-task and post-task.
We’ll explore essential preparation techniques, practical tools and real-world strategies that support accurate and ethical interpreting in healthcare settings. Topics covered include:
- effective research and preparation before an assignment
- key focus areas during the interpreting task
- reflection, terminology building, and skill development after the task
- tools and resources for terminology management
- establishing and accurately using domain-specific terminology.
Whether you're new to the field or an experienced practitioner, this session offers practical insights and guidance to help you enhance your medical interpreting practice.
Biography of our presenter – Echo Zhang

Echo Zhang holds a master’s degree in interpreting and translation from UNSW and is a qualified vocational education trainer and assessor. With over nine years of experience as a freelance interpreter and translator, Echo has worked across various fields including medical, legal and liaison interpreting. She previously worked with the Chinese Foreign Affairs Office in Sydney, and is currently a staff medical interpreter with the Western Sydney Local Health District (WSLHD).
Echo also serves as the Chair of AUSIT's Tasmanian Branch, and sits on AUSIT's National Council. She is a passionate advocate for community interpreting and multicultural communication, actively contributing to the development of the profession and the support of culturally and linguistically diverse communities.
