Artificial intelligence (AI) is becoming increasingly present in both translation and interpreting practice. Integrating AI effectively, however, requires more than simply adopting new tools — it requires understanding how to work with them strategically and responsibly. This session introduces practical approaches to incorporating AI into translation and interpreting workflows, with a focus on prompt engineering as an essential professional skill.
Participants will explore how AI can support various stages of their work, such as preparation and terminology management for interpreters and drafting and revision for translators. The session will demonstrate how carefully designed prompts can improve output quality, consistency, and efficiency while ensuring practitioners retain control and professional judgment.
Ethical considerations will also be addressed, including confidentiality, data security, bias, transparency, and the importance of human oversight. The session aims to equip translators and interpreters with practical strategies for integrating AI into their workflows while upholding professional standards and preserving the central role of human expertise.
