Interpreting for Aged Care
In this presentation, Frank will discuss key clinical symptoms, signs of Parkinsons Disease (PD) and aspects relevant to effective communication for people with Parkinsons Disease (PwPD). To facilitate this, Frank will present some of the characteristic clinical features of PD as well as direct quotations of PwPD and their carers. The quotations will provide insights into the reactions of PwPD and their carers to various challenges faced because of the condition. Frank enjoys an interactive approach in teaching and learning sessions. He is looking forward to meeting and gaining insights from the interpreters.
Meet our Presenter - Dr Frank Nicklason
Dr Frank Nicklason FRACP is a graduate of UTAS Medical School.
He is a Staff Specialist Geriatrician employed by the Tasmanian Health Service.
Frank’s main clinical interest is care provision for people with Parkinsons Disease. Frank conducts clinics for people with PD at the Mersey Community Hospital, The Launceston General Hospital, the Glenorchy Health Centre and the Repatriation Centre in Hobart.
Frank is convinced that the foundation for effective healthcare is a strong feeling of mutual responsibility between patients, their family, carers and the treating health professionals. A strong therapeutic relationship between patient and health professional is critically reliant on excellent communication.
For patients of non-English speaking background, the medical interpreter has a critical role in the multi-disciplinary healthcare team.
