Do you have a story to tell? Interpreters and translators have many stories, we live them every day. The crazy things people ask us to do, the arguments over the right word, the times we saved a client, the wrong word that accidentally led to the termination of a contract.
To celebrate International Translation Day on September 30, we want to try something different. We want you to share your stories with us—your greatest achievement, your biggest mistake, the stories that made you feel like there was never a more interesting job then being a translator or interpreter.
Join us for a lively and informal session that is essentially a night of sharing stories and connection. Together, we’ll celebrate the highs, we'll commiserate the lows, and through it all we'll learn that we are not alone, that we share the challenges and joys this profession brings with many others.
The format for this session is flipped. You can, if you want to, register to tell your story. We hope to hear from approximately 8–10 speakers, depending on time, with each participant sharing a five-minute story from their experience working as a T&I practitioner. The format is simple: no slides, no formal presentations, just real stories, honest reflections and a willingness to share and listen.
Would you like to tell your story? Please fill in the Google Form here to send us your name and a brief gist of your proposed story beforehand. Your name will be placed in a virtual hat, and speakers will be drawn at random during the event. If you have any questions, please contact the PD team at pd@ausit.org.
If you put your name forward, please come prepared to share your five-minute story. Please note, however, that given time constraints, it may not be possible to hear from everyone whose name is in the draw.
A reminder about confidentiality: Please make sure that the stories you share are de-identified and do not include confidential information or details that could identify clients, colleagues, agencies or other parties, and that anything you share is consistent with your professional and ethical obligations.
Whether you are ready to take the microphone or would simply like to listen, learn and connect with colleagues, come and celebrate International Translation Day with the people who bring our profession to life. Every practitioner brings a different perspective and we’d love to hear yours!
