Have you heard about the latest update to the AUSIT Best Practices?
Designed specifically for translators and published on 31 July 2026, the AUSIT Best Practices for the Translation of Official and Legal Documents v2.0 – Practitioner Style Guide is a 69-page document providing AUSIT’s recommendations for the translation of official and legal documents for use in Australia.
The first version of this style guide was an 8-page document published in 2014. This updated and expanded edition now contains additional information and examples on topics which were not previously covered by earlier versions. It is significantly longer than the previous versions and has been restructured to bring together related content. The guide now includes items such as definitions, extract translations, source documents, naming conventions, photos, diacritics and handwriting - to name just a few.
More than three years in the making, this revision project kicked off in April 2023. Updated entirely by volunteers in their spare time, thanks go to the working group Jacqueline Skewes (Italian/Portuguese/Spanish), Catherine Pfammatter (French), Gustavo Martinez Ursi (Spanish), Lily Cheung (Chinese), Saeed Khosravi (Persian) and Yehuda Kaplan (Hebrew). Many other volunteers and committee members also contributed to reviewing the updated guide and providing language specific examples.
In this webinar we will:
- Discuss the background and intent of the Best Practices document
- Understand what is and is not covered under the scope of the document
- Gain familiarity with the types of examples provided and how to best use the guide in everyday work
- Explore some of the new content provided in the latest edition
